Conclusion: the current proposal to give college students a broader choice in planning their own courses of study should be abandoned.

Why? The students who are supporting the proposal will never be satisfied. We are then given information on how some of these supporters have reached their third year without declaring a major, how some of these supporters indicated a serious indifference to grades and intellectual achievement, and how one first-year student supporter has failed to complete four required courses.

Thus, instead of giving us reasons as to why the current proposal should be abandoned, the argument makes us focus on the supporters of the proposal, i.e. answer choice (A).

It should always be a red flag to you when we focus on proponents or opponents of a proposal as opposed to the proposal itself.

Hope that clears things up! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
