Sufficient Condition

So "always" and "never" introduce sufficient conditions?

No, that is not correct. "Always" is not introducing a sufficient condition here because what follows "always" is "long stems" and that is actually our necessary condition.

This is a perfect example of why you really need to understand the conditional statement.

Notice you can rewrite this part as follows: All specimens will fuzzy seeds have long stems.

So this would be diagrammed as follows:

FS ➡️ LS
not LS ➡️ not FS

Now we are also told that such specimens "never have white flowers." "Never" is not introducing a sufficient condition here either. Rather this part of the sentence is telling us that fuzzy seeds and white flowers are mutually exclusive.

You can rewrite this part as follows: No specimens with fuzzy seeds have white flowers.

This would be diagrammed as follows:

FS ➡️ not WF
WF ➡️ not FS

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Could you explain in a little bit more detail why the correct solution is "or" rather than "and?"

Why isn't the answer choice 'B'
