Hi @cwcii, thanks for your question. You are told that an undergraduate degree is NECESSARY. In formal logic, the necessary component is always graphed to the right of the arrow, and the sufficient to the left (S - > N).

Another way of thinking about this sentence is: "If you are appointed to the executive board, you must have an undergraduate degree."

That is why answer choice (C) is correct.

Hope this helps! And good luck tomorrow!

Not AEB -> Not UD isn't that the same as the contrapositive AEB->UD ?

The contrapositive of not AEB--> not UD is actually UD-->AEB. You have to negate and reverse both terms to make the contrapositive.

C is only the most correct answer available of the choices submitted. While it is true that one must have UD to be Appointed to the Executive Board, it does not follow that just because one has a UD that they will be Appointed to the Exec. Board. The absolute correct answer would be Not UD -> Not AEB, which is the inverse of choice D. But since that is not a choice here we have to go with what is available.

Hi, this always feels weird, but a conditional answer choice could be written either in the original way, or it's contrapositive. Since they effectively mean the same thing, the difference between a statement and jts contrapositive is like the difference between 1/4, .25, and 25%
