The economist provides the information that "consumers are buying more durable goods than before" as his main evidence towards the claim that the "economy seems to be heading out of recession." Answer choice (B) claims that it is the necessary condition for the conclusion. However, the stimulus is not one large sufficient/necessary statement. Therefore, it is incorrect to say that for the statement "the economy seems to be heading out of recession" to be true, recent figures must show "that consumers are buying more durable goods than before." If it were not the case that "consumers are buying more durable goods than before," could it still be true that "the economy seems to be heading out of recession?" Well, we haven't been given any information to the contrary, so yes, it could be true. Therefore, (B) is incorrect.

(E) is correct because "that consumers are buying more durable goods than before" is the main premise for the conclusion that "the economy seems to be heading out of recession."

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions!
