Sufficient > Necessary

I got it right but was thrown off at first because I thought the sequence order on these questions had to be Sufficient > Necessary. That's not th case here is it? I read it as Necessary (SVA) > Sufficient (not R) Thank you.

@TashaPenwell it is important to remember that the order of the statement is not what determines which variable is sufficient or which variable is necessary.

The keyword indicator here is "if," which introduces a sufficient condition so this statement would be diagrammed as follows:

R ==> not SVA

Every sufficient and necessary statement has a contrapositive, which is identical in meaning and created by reversing and negating the S & N statement.

So our contrapositive here would be:

SVA ==> not R

This means that "if Sam spends his vacation in Alaska, he is not rich."

So (A) would be the correct answer.

Hope this helps! For a more in-depth discussion of these concepts, please watch our video lesson on Sufficient & Necessary conditions.
