Dr. Kim states that electronic fetal monitors should be discontinued because they are more intrusive than ordinary stethoscopes and do no more to improve the chances that a healthy baby will be born.

Dr. Anders states that electronic monitoring has been well worth the cost because doctors now know the warning signs they need to listen for with stethoscopes because of what was learned from using electronic monitors.

We want to support Dr. Kim's contention that electronic fetal monitors should be discontinued. Answer choice (D) does not support Dr. Kim; rather, it supports Dr. Anders's contention that electronic monitoring is well worth the cost because it has enabled doctors to learn something that improves the chances that babies will be born healthy.

Whereas answer choice (C) supports Dr. Kim's contention that electronic fetal monitoring should not be used because using a stethoscope provides the same information and is less intrusive.

Hope that was helpful! Let us know if you have any other questions.
