Rule 1: R cannot evaluate any introductory textbook until Juarez has evaluated the textbook. Doesn't "until" introduce a necessary condition; you negate the other part of the sentence and make it the sufficient condition? i.e. R CAN evaluate any intro. textbook as opposed to cannot.

You're correct in pointing out that we could have written out the rule in Sufficient & Necessary form. The first rule, for example, would be rewritten: if R can evaluate any introductory textbook, then J has evaluated that textbook.

Diagram:

R i ==> J i
not J i ==> not R i

We wrote out the rule: "J i > R i"

We wrote it this way because it better helps to visualize the placement of the specific textbooks. Any specific introductory textbook will be evaluated by J before R--hence the spatial format of the rule as opposed to the Sufficient & Necessary format. The point of the rule is that Juarez will evaluate an introductory textbook BEFORE Rosenburg does.

Always remember to focus on why each rule has been given to you. What are you supposed to glean from each rule? Choose to write down the rule in the way that best represents its purpose. It will save you time and help you better understand the game.

Hope that clears things up! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
