I have eliminated it down to between c and e but I don't understand how rule out c and arrive at e based on the answer choices. Cap'n you please explain? Thank you!

To answer your question, however, the issue with (C) is that S jumps from Assistant to Partner and that is not possible.

Remember that during each annual review, each assistant is considered for promotion to the next higher rank (i.e. associate), so an assistant cannot jump to partner in one annual review.
