Why is E correct

This is the logic that I extracted from the Argument: PR: ERL -> TRL P: ERL C: TRL The question stems calls the argument flawed, and this seems valid to me. Why is this flawed?

Your principle rule is correct. However, the premise in the argument is: none of her friends litter. All of Tanya's friends is not the same as everyone. Therefore, we cannot equate "everyone refraining from littering" with "none of Tanya's friends littering." So we do not know what happens when none of Tanya's friends litter, and therefore, we cannot conclude that Tanya will refrain.

A video explanation will be uploaded today!

Thanks Naz! I can't wait to see the video explanation.

The explanation video is live.

I could not access the video. You mentioned that it is live. Did you mean that I had to see the video when you posted it, or that it will be recorded for later viewing at my leisure?

Naz June 13, 2013

Hey, Rob, sorry if it wasn't working when you checked. It should be up right now, available for you to view at any time.

Thanks Naz, again. The information in the video helps me to weight other considerations, such as equivocal statements, when extracting the logic from passages. Your prompt involvement helps me to feel that I am not an "island-of-my-own" when studying. I am really liking this app!

Thanks for the explanation!

Can you tell me why B is incorrect?

Victoria August 8, 2019

Hi @yuetngan,

The argument in the passage is flawed because it suggests that "everyone else" is the same as Tanya's group of friends. Clearly Tanya's friends do not represent everyone else so the argument is flawed.

Answer choice B does not make the same error in reasoning because both the conclusion and premise focus on the artist's friends. Donna is an artist and her friends support her profession as the passage argues that an artist's friends should support their profession. In this way, the answer choice does not draw its conclusion using too small of a sample size making it incorrect.

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any further questions.
