Okay let's diagram the argument.

"Although all contemporary advertising tries to persuade,"

P1: A ==> P
Not P ==> not A

"only a small portion of contemporary advertising can be considered morally reprehensible."

Q1: A-some-MR
MR-some-A

"some attempts at persuasion can be regarded as morally reprehensible."

C: P-some-MR
MR-some-P

Remember that we can combine a quantifier statement with a Sufficient & Necessary statement if the right-hand side variable of the Quantifier statement is the same as the sufficient condition of the Sufficient & Necessary statement. So, we can combine Q1 with P1 like so: MR-some-A ==> P to conclude: MR-some-P, which is our conclusion.

Now let's diagram answer choice (E).

"all sonnets are short poems."

P1: S ==> SP
Not SP ==> not S

"some sonnets are characterized by such pluralism,"

Q1: S-some-P
P-some-S

"Some short poems are thematically pluralistic,"

C: SP-some-P
P-some-SP

Just like in the stimulus, we can combine Q1 and P1 like so: P-some-S ==> SP to conclude: P-some-SP, which is our conclusion.

Thus, answer choice (E) follows the same reasoning as that in the stimulus.

Hope that clears things up! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
