Happy Valentine’s Day from LSATMax!

Posted on Feb 14, 2014

Hello all you LSAT lovers out there! First and foremost I wanted to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you get everything out of today that you expect. If you’re like me, I expect it to be any other Friday: I’m going to go to work, get home, have dinner with my loving boyfriend, and we’ll probably watch a movie. I suppose to commemorate the “holiday,” we’ll watch something appropriate like The Shining or Rosemary’s Baby. But, that’s just what I expect on the 14th day of February. If you expect chocolates and roses, a steak dinner and a hot date, then I hope all your wishes come true!

I thought since we’re a long way away from the June LSAT, and seeing how it’s technically a holiday, we could have a lighthearted discussion about something that I hold very near and dear to my heart—chocolate. No, I haven’t lost my mind. Chocolate is not only one of the most delicious foods out there, but it is also something that can be very beneficial for your LSAT prep.

A study published this past summer by Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital looked into the health benefits of cocoa. Study author Dr. Farzaneh Sorond, a neurologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, says that chocolate seemed to boost the brain’s blood supply, which, in turn, resulted in a 30% increase in memory and thinking abilities. I think we can agree that increased memory and thinking abilities are two things we can never have enough of while studying for the LSAT. The study concluded that regular cocoa consumption improved cognitive function.

So go ahead and splurge on some Valentine’s Day chocolates. Eat them in the name of your LSAT prep! Or, make your significant other bring you some along with a pretty bouquet of rose or a six-pack of your favorite beer.

And for those of you a little bummed about the silly holiday, remember that studies have shown that being in love actually makes you a less productive person. So you may be sitting home alone completing Reading Comprehension passages tonight, but at least you know that your lack of love interest at the moment is helping you raise your score on the LSAT!

P.S. It’s not a real holiday…

Happy Friday the 14th and Happy Studying!
