Now that the days are dwindling down to test day, I thought I could entertain you with a few tidbits on my favorite beverage during my own LSAT prep. I know I wouldn’t have been able to get through studying for the LSAT if it wasn’t for the wonder that is coffee. Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t be able to get through life if it wasn’t for coffee. Okay let’s be really candid, I wouldn’t be able to get through this sentence if it wasn’t for coffee. Now for those of you who aren’t coffee-drinkers, then maybe skip over this article or you know, share with your other LSAT studying friends who do drink coffee!
You should be slowly calming down your LSAT prep schedule to give your brain some time to relax and recoup after months of preparing. So, take a quick break, relax and learn a bit more about that drink you love so dearly. Here are some tidbits I’ve collected about java:
- Coffee was first called Arabian Wine when it was brought to Europe.
- The word “coffee” originated from “qahwa,” the Arabic word for wine. So I guess tidbit (1) makes a bit more sense now.
- Starbucks coffee quality experts taste over 250,000 cups of coffee per year to ensure their customer receive the best cup, though they might want to consider testing more since, in my opinion, smaller mom and pop stores have better-tasting coffee.
- Coffee beans grow in berries! What?! I know.
- Bach wrote “The Coffee Cantata,” a miniature comic opera about an addiction to coffee. I’m going to guess this is the first thing you’re going to see when you’re done studying for the LSAT!
- Coffee was issued as part of the food rations for Union soldiers during the Civil War. See how important it is?
- The French philosopher Voltaire loved coffee so much that he drank on average, 50 cups a day! Though…who followed him around and counted?
- Brazil is responsible for about a third of the world’s coffee supply.
- Coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world, right behind oil.
- There is a World Barista Championship held annually.
If that’s not enough reason for you to start drinking coffee, well then, I don’t know what! Either way, what I’d really like you to take from this is, make sure to have something that gives you energy. Whether it’s coffee, an energy drink, water, exercise or play time with your friends, find your energy booster and stick with it! Get back to studying, you have five days till the exam. I’m so excited for those of you taking it!
Happy Studying!
