Also, C and D seem very similar to me and I am confused about why D is more correct.

Hi,
We are looking to strengthen the idea that despite large-scale burning, the society in question were hunter gatherers, due to the lack of evidence of cultivation.
A) Would weaken our argument by showing counterexamples that prove agriculture can predate burning- although it does not address the lack of evidence.
B) Does not provide any useful information. All humans use fire, but this small-scale burning would not relate to the large scale burns described.
C) Is irrelevant. Since the seeds are inedible, the use of fire to release them does not indicate gathering, since those seeds cannot be used as food.
D) Gives clear support to the argument. It offers us a potential reason why hunter-gatherers would have conducted these large burns.
E) Is irrelevent.
