Clarification

Could you please explain this. I see why E is correct after looking at the answers but just want to make sure I am understanding it correctly. Thanks!

@saruhgarcia of course! In abstract, the reasoning structure here is as follows:

A and B are treated differently.

But A and B are similar is a certain respect.

Therefore, A and B should be treated the same.

Let's take a look at the stimulus first.

The structure of the argument is as follows:

Migrant workers are paid less than permanent workers.

But migrant workers are as much full-time workers as people hired on a year-round basis.

Therefore, migrant workers should be paid the same minimum hourly wage as other full time workers.

Now let's take a look at (E):

Food additives are not considered drugs and do not have to meet the safety standards that the government applies to drugs.

But food additives can be as dangerous as drugs.

Therefore, food additives should also be subject to safety regulations as stringent as those covering drugs.

Hope that helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I tried to diagram this and had a hard time accepting E because it doesn't have any of the most statements from the stimulus.

@Eleazar,

You're right—E doesn't have any of the most statements from the stimulus. However, it is by far the closest answer choice in paralleling the pattern of reasoning contained in the stimulus. It sounds like you may have been concerning yourself too much with finding an answer choice that had most statements vs. some statements in it. However, this is not what we're looking for in this question, as we're looking for the answer that most closely mirrors the pattern of reasoning that's in the stimulus.

As Mehran noted in his explanation, the stimulus tells us that A and B are treated differently, but A an B are similar in a certain way. Therefore, A and B should be treated the same.

The only answer choice that comes close to matching this structure of reasoning is E.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions!
