Example 5

Hi, I am attempting to eliminate letter B. However I'm getting caught up in my own logic. If all maples are older than any of the dogwoods then not even the oldest dogwood would be older than the youngest maple. And if most of the sycamores are older than any maple then it would be that the oldest maples would be completing with the youngest sycamores. So then how is it that it's even possible for any dogwood to be as old as the youngest sycamore. If none of the dogwoods are as old as any of the maples? Hopefully I haven't made it too confusing.

@nikorasu not sure I understand your question here so I will just explain why (B) is incorrect.

This is a "Must Be True" question so we are looking for the answer choice that is 100% supported by the information in the stimulus.

Here is the part of the chain we need to focus on here:

Most S > M > D

The issue with (B) is that the sycamores that are not older than any maple (i.e. "some S") could still be older than all the dogwoods.

For example:

Most S > M > Some S > D

This is a valid scenario which demonstrates that (B) is not necessarily true.

Hope that helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi, why is question 5 not set up as quantifiers? I saw quantifier language such as a "majority", and "all" (necessary and sufficient).

I too don't understand why it was no set up as quantifiers. How are we supposed to know when to do so and when not to?

Likewise, I don't know why this questions was not set up as quantifiers? Need explanation please.
