I don't understand how (A) is the answer. I chose C but I also thought (D) was close because it was showing a possible alternate cause for cancer, pollution. Could you explain please? Thank you!

@smilde11, the correct answer is (D), so I won't explain why (A) would be the answer. :-)

(C) is wrong because it doesn't include any comparative language that would make it useful or detrimental to the argument. Cancer being a prominent cause of death in countries with low-fat diets doesn't provide any context for how that cancer-related death rate compares to other countries.
