After looking back at the passage, I was wondering if "earlier general reassessment" would be (B)'s flaw because the reassessment is in fact a result of recent studies (lines 10-12)

That's right! The earlier general assessment is not relevant to recent studies. The rest of the answer choices refer to the specific parts of the text but only the correct answer choice (D) accurately reflects the main point of the passage as a whole.
