(B) weakens rather than supports the argument, if classifications can be made on the basis of duration alone, then "short" and "long" classifications are still appropriate regardless of other properties other than duration. (C) supports the argument because if properties other than duration are more important, the labels that are based solely on duration "long" and "short" are less useful.
