Negative evidence is essentially any evidence that disproves a theory or an underlying assumption. Passage B discusses the role of negative evidence in the predictions of Uranus's and Mercury's orbit. The fact that another planet - Neptune - existed where none were assumed to be is an example of negative evidence that demonstrated the error in their initial predictions.
