Although (C) and (E) are similar, (E) is different because of the phrase "in which a phenomenon recurred."

In the passage, the third paragraph describes items that can be viewed as autobiographical. There is no "recurring phenomenon" in this type of classification, which is why (E) is incorrect. Moreover, the items described fit into the larger thread of the passage to support an argument, as (C) states.
