Why is the answer not B

I want to know why B is wrong even though it seems like the stimulus is looking for an explanation that explains why people who took the placebo are experiencing changes in their condition

Hello @jahovasthicknass,

Let's remember the intention of these trials.

"Trials are designed with the intention that neither subjects nor experimenters will find out which subjects are actually being given the drug."

The passage ends with a blank space, needing something that frustrates this intention. The stimulus is not looking for an explanation of the effects of the placebo.

B is incorrect, because it would not cause problems with the trial methodology. It does nothing to reveal to the researchers or to the patients which medicine they are given. The whole point of a placebo is that people sometimes respond to them positively, even if it is only psychological. An effective medication would have to go beyond the effects of the placebo.

A is the correct answer because it reveals to the researchers which patients have received the trial drug. This is in direct violation of the given intention.
