Hi @dannyod,Thanks for the question! Remember, we’re looking for an assumption on which the professor’s argument relies. Let’s take a look at (C). (C) tells us that if the department doesn’t forego the funding it currently receives from profit-driven institutions, then the members of the chemistry department aren’t likely to make significant advances in basic science research. But the professor tells us that actually they need additional funding, not anything about removing current funding sources. Remember that the original problem had to do with needing more funding than they could get from profit-driven sources, not that too much came from those sources.
