Explain why C is wrong?

I chose the right answer here, but mostly out of luck since I was strapped for time. I chose between C and D. Could you please explain why C is incorrect? Thanks

Hi @dannyod,

Thanks for the question! Remember, we’re looking for an assumption on which the professor’s argument relies. Let’s take a look at (C). (C) tells us that if the department doesn’t forego the funding it currently receives from profit-driven institutions, then the members of the chemistry department aren’t likely to make significant advances in basic science research. But the professor tells us that actually they need additional funding, not anything about removing current funding sources. Remember that the original problem had to do with needing more funding than they could get from profit-driven sources, not that too much came from those sources.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any further questions that you might have.

For some reason your responses are showing up blank on my tablet but I can see on my phone...is there a good place to flag this bug? Thank you for the response though, super helpful!
