what thows me off about A is the "unexpected" word how does that fit in to this passage if this person is talking about what features a video game may have.

I found support for "unanticipated discovery" on line 17: "As castronova stared at the auction listings, he recognized with a shock what he was looking at. It was a form of currency trading!"
The word "shock" and the use of an exclamation point strongly suggest that this currency trade was an unexpected discovery.
The problem raised by this discovery is, "How should this currency trade be taxed?" Author B presents a solution in the last two paragraphs.
