he author is rebutting the continuous change theorists. They spend the second half of their passage rebutting them point by point. This is a good match for refuting an argument. E is incorrect as it is purely descriptive, but the author goes much further than just describing. The author is trying to convince us that a view is wrong, just just describe progress.
