Answer D vs B

I am able to see why B is correct, but it be possible to get a thorough explanation of both B and D to see them side by side, because I am still slightly confused why D is wrong.

@AllisonJ, happy to help!

The original passage proceeds as follows:
Argument: First, it identifies an interest (childcare) of a group (businesses), and then it proceeds to make a statement that the group should take an action (adopt policies) to enable that interest.
Objection: It points out that no one member (one business) of the original group (businesses) will reap the direct benefits of the actions (adopting policies) it took to further its interest (childcare), so it concludes that it is not smart for one individual member of the original group to act alone.

The correct answer choice, (B), follows this same pattern:
Argument: First, it identifies an interest (clean air) of a group (humanity), and then it proceeds to make a statement that the group should take an action (make an effort to avoid polluting) to enable that interest.
Objection: It points out that no one member (one person) of the original group (humanity) will reap the direct benefits of the actions (making an effort to avoid pollution) it took to further its interest (clean air), so it concludes that it is not smart for one individual member of the original group to act alone.

This is different from answer choice (D), which does not follow the pattern and is incorrect. (D) deviates from the logical flow above by failing to make a distinction between a larger group and one member of that group. Further, (D) does not end its objection by making a conclusion about the sensibility of taking an action.

Does that make sense? Please let us know if you have any other questions and best of luck with your continued studies!
