Which one of the following, if true, would most undermine the claim that prions cause CJD?

Longer response for c

Can we please get a longer response for why c is wrong? I thought it was correct because if it does not affect the brain, and these pp's cause this reaction in the brain which causes cjd, then how can they be the cause if they don't affect the brain? thank you

Hi @kassidee,

Happy to help!

Answer choice (C) is incorrect because it does not impact the claim that prions cause CJD.

Answer choice (C) simply tells us that, following the studies which linked prions to CJD, more research was conducted. This research found that prions can also be linked to degenerative conditions that do not affect the brain or the central nervous system.

This does not suggest that prions are not linked to CJD. This research just proves that prions are also linked to other degenerative conditions.

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any further questions.
