Why is D wrong?

The author criticizes Rohmer, saying that her article has a polarizing effect on national politics even though it's really just her followers that she is trying to please. So doesn't that contradict her having a polarizing effect on national politics?

Hi @Veda-Bhadharla,

Thanks for the question! So we know that Roehmer’s opinion column has a polarizing effect on national politics according to the commentator. But we also know that the commentator is just trying to please her loyal readers. But we don’t know that these two things are contradictory. It’s possible to just try to please her loyal readers and also have a polarizing effect on national politics. You might think of some extremely far right or far left news outlets that might not have any bad motives and are just trying to please their loyal readers, but still have a polarizing effect on national politics. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. And that’s why (D) is wrong, since both of these things aren’t necessarily a contradiction.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
