Example 8 answer choice B

How do we know that “Jenny’s birthday” is Sufficient and Balloons is necessary? Does the word “lots” in the sentence tell us that whatever follows will be the necessary condition?

@Elza-Hovhannisyan, happy to help!

The word "lots" is not a Sufficient and Necessary indicator. Instead, we know how to diagram this sentence because of its structure. The sentence "Jenny will have lots of balloons at her birthday party" can be reworded as "If it is Jenny's birthday party, then she will have lots of balloons." Reframing the logic into more straightforward if/then language like this can be helpful in diagramming and identifying the conditions. Practicing with Sufficient and Necessary questions should make this concept and sentence structure much more familiar to you.

Does that make sense? Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Hello, I had this exact same question. When I was working out the problem I was stuck between B & D. The way I had structured it made it seem like all that was flawed with B was that it was just negated and not reversed like the passage. I ended up selecting D, but was wondering if I could have B explained better. Why is it flawed differently than the passage? and what are other methods or tools I can use to reword the sentence in order to help me diagram it correctly?
