Memorizing Question Types

How important is it to memorize the question types or is this exercise more geared to understanding what the question is actually wanting as an answer? IE: should the answer weaken? should the answer be a paradox (strength)? the answer should show error in reasoning? Just trying to understand how much effort I should put into knowing exactly what question type I'm getting versus being able to determine the answer they're seeking. If that makes any sense...

Hi @Stretter,

Thanks for the question! So it’s not super important to remember the exact name of the question types. You don’t need to be able to say, “Ah, this is a strengthen with sufficient premise,” because you’ll never be tested on the name of a question type or something. But it is important to know the difference between question types, since different question types can have different approaches to them (such as strengthen with necessary premise vs. strengthen with sufficient premise). So yes, if I understand you correctly, the exercise is more geared to understanding what the question actually wants as an answer (which may affect how you approach the question).

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
