Hi @RayJ,Thanks for the question! So we’re asked here for something that the author is most likely to believe about illustrations in medical textbooks. Well, we should go to the point in the passage where these are mentioned, and that happens in the third paragraph (lines 30-49). We want something that’s definitely supported by the text, so let’s see what it says.
Now look at lines 36-38, where we’re told that illustrations in medical textbooks are designed to include extensive detail required by medical students. And then those are compared in the next lines (39-41) to custom-made medical illustrations, which include only information relevant for those deciding a case. So basically, the custom-made medical illustrations are simplified to make them easier to understand. And we’re told in the following lines (41-46) that the end users (which include juries) only need the information relevant for deciding a case, and more complex details are deleted so as not to confuse the issue.
Now take a look at (E), which tells us that in many cases, medical textbook illustrations are more apt to confuse jurors than are custom-made medical illustrations. And this matches up exactly with what we just said earlier. We use the custom-made medical illustrations to make things less confusing, so it makes sense that the medical textbook illustrations (which are more complex) are more likely to confuse jurors.
(D), on the other hand, is wrong because we’re not told anything about the beliefs of “most lawyers” with respect to medical textbooks. And actually, medical textbooks being less prone than custom-made medical illustrations to misrepresent the nature of a personal injury is the opinion of opponents of custom-made medical illustrations, but this question is asking for the author’s opinion. So for those reasons, (D) is wrong.
Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
