Hi I am not an instructor but I understand why you are confused.C is incorrect because the author never argues that film archives and retrospective festivals are too beholden (indebted) to vaudeville tradition or its practices. I believe the only reason vaudeville tradition is mentioned is to purport a possible root of how film presentation throughout the years gave audience insights, as shown in the last sentence of the passage. However, I am a bit confused about what vaudeville tradition entails so please check with an instructor about that. The Wikipedia says vaudeville is a farce in music.
B is incorrect because the central idea in the passage is that how a film is presented is crucial to audience movie going experience. In the beginning of the passage, the author spent lots of time talking about how exhibition carefully selects the order that a group of objects are presented together, either by artist, theme, or historical period. This is done to help audience better appreciate the items being exhibited by allowing them to react to items with relation to each other. Thus B is the correct answer.
Thank you. I hope you found this helpful and that I explained it correctly. Please feel free to correct me.

Jing Jing is correct, C is wrong because we are never told that retrospectives are too beholden to Vaudeville.
