Thanks for the question! So we’re asked here to basically figure out what the author’s illustrating with the laboratory experiments with adult water bugs. Luckily, we’re given line numbers, so we can just go to those lines and read some lines above and below (in this case, just above, since this is the end of the passage). This allows us to understand the full context around the lines.

So now let’s take a look at that part of the passage. Well, we’re told that in these laboratory experiments, we’re bringing these adult water bugs into the laboratory during cold months but keeping them warm. And they produce macropterous offspring. And in general, in the part above, we’re talking about how eggs are exposed to winter temperatures and produce micropterous offspring, and how in general temperature affects the offspring. And this is what (C) gets at, the fact that the lab results are about telling us about the effect of temperature on developing water-bug eggs.
