Answer Choice C

I understand why the answer is D, but C seemed like a valid option as well. Why not c?

Hi @kearann,

Thanks for the question! So we’re asked here to find something that most accurately characterizes the relationship between the two passages. So let’s take a look at (C), which tells us that this relationship is the following. Passage A presents evidence that a particular phenomenon is widely considered to be undesirable. And passage B presents evidence that the same phenomenon is usually considered to be beneficial.

The first problem with (C) is that the fact that “presents evidence” is repeated. “Passage A presents evidence…passage B presents evidence.” This suggests that they’re both presenting different evidence. But that’s not what’s happening, they’re both interpreting the same evidence and phenomenon in different ways.

Also, we’re told in (C) that passage A presents evidence that a particular phenomenon (here, invasive species) is widely considered to be undesirable. But we’re not told anywhere that this is widely considered to be harmful; we’re only told that “ecologists” feel this way in line 8. Is that the same thing as widely considered to be undesirable? It’s kind of a leap, and if part of the answer choice is wrong, the whole answer choice is wrong. So those are both reasons to pick (D) over (C).

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
