Why would A not be right?

Isn't A a more general answer that more accurately reflects the author's attitudes

Hi @Alexander-Bae,

Thanks for the question! So we’re being asked here for something the author would think is an accurate description of the effects of the current approach to recusal and disqualification fo judges. Well, where is this talked about? It’s talked about in the second paragraph, and that’s where we should go to find this answer.

Now (A) tells us that the author thinks that the standards in place fail to assure the general public that the legal system is adequately protected against judicial bias. Here’s the problem with this answer choice: where does the author ever talk about failing to assure the general public, or assuring the general public at all? Nothing is mentioned about that aspect of it, so even though (A) has the right kind of gist to it, it’s not supported by the passage and isn’t the correct answer. (E) has more support from the passage, and is correct.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.

Why A is wrong makes sense, but where is the first clause of (E) , "Judges are sometimes removed from cases for bias even though they are not actually biased", supported in the passage? It appears to have about as much support as A does.
