Why not B

Why is the answer not B? I understand how there is a rationale of a theory given, but isn't it given in contrast to the Big Bang Theory? Is the issue that it says "prevailing"? Because even though it says physicists give forth the big bang theory, it doesn't necessarily mean that's the prevailing view? Or is it that even though rationale is given in response to holes in the big bang theory, more of the passage is spent focused on their rationale?

I also chose B. I thought that whole point of the passage was to compare Chen and Carroll's theory with the big bang theory.

can we get an answer to this question please? I also chose B, I can understand why answer choice E is better, I felt as argue for another reason correllated with answer choice B? Is it wrong because of the word dominant?

Hey there everyone, I just want to preface this, I am NOT an instructor. However, I eliminated B for a few reasons, primarily, there was no DOMINANT view being challenged, the passage only says

This is based on the suggestion of some
(10) physicists that the Big Bang was the beginning of our
. universe as we know it, but not the beginning of a
. larger Universe—or "multiverse"—that encompasses
. everything, including that which we can never see
because it is beyond our "cosmic bubble."

to me "some" stuck out very prominently, and a view CANNOT be the dominant one if only 2 people believe it.
Furthermore, this question is asking for the primary purpose of the PASSAGE, not the purpose behind Chen and Carroll's theory, and the author never overtly compares their theory to the Big Bang, only explains that Chen and Carroll used that theory as the basis for their own.

Hope this helps, like I said, not an instructor, just my own reasoning about B.
