I was confused between E and C. I was wondering how you could eliminate E? I went for that choice on the basis of the "typical" mentioned in the line of reference. Could you let me know why the said choice would be wrong.

So these time periods don’t match up. Also, (E) is just too broad in general. The kind of writing that all French women produced, forget about the time frame? No, we’re just told about political writings here, and it’s typical of the women who wrote political tracts, but what about other authors? It’s certainly not typical of women who might’ve written literature or other genres. And so for those two reasons, (E) is incorrect.
