The reason I did not pick D...

I was super tempted to pick D because the passage talks about how African Americans combined American speech patterns with their own. However, I did not end up picking this answer because I thought the scope was directed toward all of American’s speech patterns rather than African Americans adoption of American speech patterns. So I was thinking, like no African languages did not impact American speech patterns. I have missed a few questions like this, where I think I have the right answer but then find something wrong/I think is wrong with the scope. Any advice on how to avoid this?????

Hey @erica, thanks for the question!

The simplest and best way to avoid this is simply to be confident and trust yourself! I know this sounds like non-starter advice but one of the most common causes of choosing the wrong answer is to doubt oneself, their pre phrase, and to start considering things you might not have at the beginning. In terms of the answer itself, D does not invoke concepts that are out of scope, as Africans developing their own idioms in English is in fact part of the English language. Hope this helps!
