Hi, we are looking to prove that the sole motive was to hurt a competitor.

A tells us that any company who behaved the way that checkers did was motivated solely by desire to hurt a competitor.

B tells us that if you want to hurt a competitor, you will refuse to accept.

In other words, a is

If refuse then sole motive is hurt

And b is

If sole motive is hurt then refuse.

Since we needed to have sole motive as the necessary condition, A is correct.
