Problem with question #7...?

How can an object whos light only burns for 100 million years appear on earth if it takes 500 million years for that light to reach earth? That light would "die" before it reached earth... Am I missing something? Because in my opinion NONE of the alternatives MUST BE TRUE. Can anyone please explain this one to me....

Hi Debora :)

I hope I can offer a little help! I apologize if I confuse you more.

So, the light takes 500 million years to reach earth. It travels to us. The light doesn't die, it doesn't have an expiration, so to speak. It is energy, and energy can neither be created or destroyed.

So the reason that E.) MBT, is that it represents the logic between the statements: it takes light 500 million years to get to earth AND the object in the cosmos that is burning and producing that amount of light only lasts 100 million years. The object only lasts a million years, not the light.

So, for example, the quasar exists...its light shines...100 million years later the quasar dies and no longer exists. The light, however, is still traveling to us for another 400 million years.

I hope that makes sense, and if someone sees a flaw in my explanation please let me know!!

Happy Studying!
Ally
