Thanks for the question! So we’re asked here for a statement that’s most strongly supported by the information in the passage. These questions are kind of a grind just because you really have to have a firm understanding of the passage.
I’ll start off with why (E) is wrong. (E) tells us that some of the refrigerant chemicals being manufactured today contain chemicals known to be environmentally damaging. Now, where are we told about new refrigerant chemicals today? We’re told about those in the very last lines of the passage, and all we’re told about them is that they’re “more environmentally friendly.” Which could mean not environmentally damaging at all! We don’t have enough information to conclude (E) from the passage, so it can’t be wrong. And if you’re tempted to bring in outside information here, don’t!
Now, as for the evidence for (B), we can actually take a look at those same lines, the last few lines of the passage. We’re told there that ozone-depleting gases were banned, and then the environmentally friendly refrigerant chemicals were developed. So that implies that they release fewer chlorine atoms. Is it 1000% supported? No, but it’s pretty close, and I’d say the most supported out of all the answer choices.
Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
