I was going to pick C, but I noticed the answer choice was missing the word "small" while the passage only discusses "small hot and dense" not "hot and dense" overall, so I chose a different answer

I understand your thought process, but I think you may be thinking of it in a different way. The passage does say "small hot and dense" but by not saying "small" in the answer choice, that doesn't mean then that it isn't hot and dense. It's still hot and dense, so that's correct--it just also is small!
