Why not (E)?

Can someone explain why answer choice (E) is incorrect? Is it because it discusses Yolanda Broyles-Gonzalez, which was only a small portion of the passage as a whole?

That is one reason, as I think it's only a secondary point but more critically, I think the passage fails to mention anything about how Valdez's academic connections were essential.
