Why not answer choice C? If the money pot is bigger that doesn't necessarily mean this is the best time to play as there can be many more candidates that chose to enter??

Thanks for the question! So we’re being asked to describe a mistake in the reasoning of one of the two speakers, and (C) says that the mistake that Sandy makes is that she holds that the chances of anyone’s winning are unaffected by the size of the pot. But does she actually do that? No, she doesn’t. She’s just focused on the amount won, not on the probability of winning. And so (C) is wrong because she doesn’t necessarily hold this.
