2-2-2-2-0 & 2-2-2-2-1 ??

Hi, Could you please explain how to come up with the numerical deduction 2-2-2-2-0 and 2-2-2-2-1 as they do in the video explanation? I understand the maximum is 2 but I am not understanding how to make this deduction. Why can't it be 2-2-2-2-2?

Hi @Rozanna,

Thanks for the question! So first, I think the two distributions that it can be are 2-2-2-2-0 and 2-2-2-1-1, not 2-2-2-2-1. Because remember, we have four employees, who each attend exactly 2 of the talks. That means that there are eight total times that the talks are attended. So how do we distribute those among the five talks? Well, four of them could be attended twice. Or three could be attended twice, and two once. And we’re told that the talks are attended by at most two of the employees. So having 2-2-2-2-2 would be impossible (as would 2-2-2-2-1) because then we would have 10 (or 9) total talks attended, and only 8 total talks are attended (4x2=8).

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
