I don’t understand the correct answer because it specifies that the leading questions affect witnesses prior to the court. But doesn’t it refer to in the courtroom as well? It felt too specific to be correct.

Take a look at the first paragraph. The passage is mostly about the fact that leading questions can be dangerous even when barred from the courtroom. That is, it is entirely about leading questions prior to court.
