As to D, I agree that the author is surprised that ethnographic studies fail to consider the perspective of women about women, I think that D says something slightly different. D seems to imply an already existing body of available interviews of women about women, and we don't know the authors position about the availability of that information.

C is correct as it seems to reflect what the author says at the end of the third paragraph, lines 41-43.
