Please help!

Is D the correct answer because the editor is talking about the damage from giving favorable mention to their products in their articles as opposed to an ad, which the director’s counter-argument focuses on?

I think that D is correct because what the sales director says is not relevant to the argument of the editor, The editor recognizes that if people suspect the integrity of the magazine, this is bad for everyone since readers will presumably abandon it. Therefore, the reason that giving favorable treatment is bad for advertisers is that it will decrease the ability to sell magazines, which makes ads less useful. It does not really on the ads gaining by association with the editorial value of the articles.
