The author argues that beauty is not subjective because our art shows a standard of beauty that is quite similar to the standard of beauty in earlier art. However, if our art is heavily influenced by the art of earlier periods, thus borrowing that standard of beauty, then it is an alternative reason why the standard is the same. Perhaps they are not objective, and one merely copied the other.
