Why not answer B

I understand why A supports the answer, I was stuck between A and B. I thought B would be good because it rules out an alternative cause/explanation. Isn't this a strategy we're supposed to use?

I don't don't really see how b is relevant. We are trying to show that the fungus caused the decline in population. Whether it does or doesn't have an impact on other species doesn't support or hurt the argument unless we add in additional info about what happened to those species.
