Example 4 diagramming the question stem

I diagrammed the stimulus to read as follows because of the words (in order to): Sufficient: In order to not produce dangerous or inefficent machines. Necessary: Designers should make allowances for learned behavior. Contrapositive: Sufficient: If dangerous or inefficient machines. Necessary: Then designer did not make allowances for learned behavior. I didn't see the conditional language to diagram D-MA. I'm still a bit mystified.

Hi Karen, I completely understand the confusion here. I wouldn't think about the statement that designers should make allowances as sufficient and necessary. There actually isn't any conditional language here. This is a should- this is persuasive or recommend
In language. If we say that someone should do something there is no sufficient and necessary. We only have sufficient and necessary when we have conditional language as you said. That is, when we are told that something guarantees that another thing will happen or will not happen.

The D-MA statement is making a recommendation, and we are then asked to discern which answer choice goes against that recommendation.
